The past year has been filled with unique challenges and opportunities for growth, both for our community and for Seeds of Promise as an organization. We have navigated significant changes in leadership and programming, adapting to new realities and building a stronger foundation for the future. As we step into the New Year, we do so with renewed energy, a clear vision, and a deep commitment to serving the Southtown-Madison Square neighborhood in Grand Rapids.
At Seeds of Promise, our mission is to empower residents to create resident-led solutions to address pressing issues related to housing, neighborhood safety, health, and education. We believe real change starts with the people who live here, and we are actively working to re-engage our Host Neighborhood Leadership Council.
We are inviting passionate community members to become Host Neighbors, local leaders dedicated to solving neighborhood challenges through training in self-governance and project management. Host Neighbors serve as trusted experts and liaisons for their blocks and surrounding areas. Their leadership helps shape programs, advocate for resources, and build a safer, healthier, and more connected neighborhood.
If you’re passionate about making a lasting impact in your community, we encourage you to join the Host Neighborhood Leadership Council. To learn more or get involved, please contact our Outreach Coordinator, Tori, at vkeenan@seedsofpromisegr.com or call 616-710-5730.
We’re also excited to announce the launch of our Neighborhood Improvement Project orientations for the upcoming 2021 grant year. Through our Serve, Share & Improve Program, eligible residents may qualify for up to $7,500 in home repair assistance. Participants will attend two orientations and become part of both the Host Neighbor Leadership Council and one Impact Team. By engaging in this initiative, residents will not only enhance their own homes but also strengthen the overall well-being of the neighborhood.
Orientation dates will be announced soon, and we will offer virtual options to ensure accessibility for all community members.
Seeds of Promise is more than just an organization, it’s a movement led by residents, for residents. We are excited to continue growing our programs, connecting with new neighbors, and building a stronger, more resilient community together.
Together, we can overcome challenges, create opportunities, and shape a better future for Southtown-Madison Square.
